When looking out through an airplane window at night, I often think about that episode of the Twilight Zone : Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. As a kid, it was very scary ;)
The ability of Japanese people to sleep anywhere is remarkable :)
You know, for the kids ;-) The digital age makes it possible for my daughter to enjoy the very same cartoons I enjoyed as a kid 30 years ago !
First step of our winter holiday : take a flight for Hokkaido in Haneda. Well-groomed, friendly, polite and efficient staff makes flying definitely less painful !
Something for you Eric ! :D
Every flight guarantees you a nice dose of radiation : this was shot at 11,000 m and is pretty normal given that there’s less air above our heads to protect us from cosmic rays. My neighbour looked alarmed… best to remain ignorant I guess !
Enjoying the final approach towards Paris.
The cabin lighting of the A380 features programmable multi-spectral LEDs capable of creating a cabin ambience simulating daylight, night, or levels in between. Quite nice I have to say!
Upper Deck of an A380 (here Air France). Thanks to the curvature of the plane, all window seats on the upper deck benefit from a storage compartment, quite nice!
The A380 is quieter (especially behind the wings compared to others) and more stable than any aircraft I have flown (and that should cover pretty much everything). Pictured above the upper deck
Starting the descent towards Paris, 11 hours of a smooth ride after leaving Tokyo. A plethora of A380 photos coming soon… :-) I actually wanted to upload more photos but my iPad now refuses to connect to my CF card reader because of the USB power limitation iOS has recently introduced. Not to mention the ...
Already bored right after boarding – no pun intended – I took a few photos of what would be my view for the next 15 hours or so on my way back to Tokyo… That Boeing 777-200 from Delta was either new or recently refurbished : large touch screens for in-flight entertainment without any remote ...
Beautiful sunset over Florida, or maybe it was still Georgia.
DL280 from Narita (NRT) to Atlanta (ATL). Was actually supposed to leave one day earlier but there was some overbooking. I managed to negotiate the conditions under which I would give up my seat : $400 in cash + upgrade to business :) Flat bed is really nice, you can sleep on your tummy !
Only 3.5 hours from Beijing to Tokyo…
For long-haul flights, I find those footrests rather annoying as they block (even folded!) my legs from stretching under the seat in front of me.
Two rows of first class, 11 rows of business class, 5 rows of premium economy, and at the very back of the plane, 12 rows of economy (depicted here). I don’t think I have been on a plane with fewer economy seats than this one. Kind of depressing to know that the large majority of ...
Quite an improvisation from JAL staff: tissue box taped on a cupboard. Good example of Kaizen!
Estimated flight time:12h15, 2h15 longer than the advertised battery life of the iPad.
